Lois enjoys painting a variety of subjects, including portraits, still lifes, landscapes, and seascapes, but it is her ability to consistently capture the interplay of light and shadow that has defined her work as a whole over the past 10 years.
LANDSCAPES
she paints en plein aire, taking photos to help with the finishing touches she adds in her studio.
PORTRAITS
involve a more complex process. Lois takes photos of every subject in different settings before sitting down with them to create a preliminary sketch. Using the sketches and photos, she then produces 2 different perspectives for her client. This careful process helps guide the creation of the original portrait, with further sittings if necessary.
Lois joined with a group of artists to hire models for live portrait sessions. She enjoys capturing the likeness, body language, and personality expressed by each individual. |
