Lois Scharrer
is a native Oklahoman who has made art education a part of her life since elementary school. She studied art at Tulsa Community College and Chicago’s DePaul University and has attended workshops with nationally known artists in the development of her personal style.

Living and traveling throughout the United States and in several foreign countries gave Lois the inspiration to begin sketching and painting again, after resigning as CFO of an architectural and engineering firm.

Lois is an active member of several art associations including the American Society of Portrait Artists and participates in numerous exhibits and shows. Her paintings are in collections across the country.

Lois enjoys painting a variety of subjects, including portraits, still lifes, landscapes, and seascapes, but it is her ability to consistently capture the interplay of light and shadow that has defined her work as a whole over the past 10 years.

LANDSCAPES
she paints en plein aire, taking photos to help with the finishing touches she adds in her studio.
PORTRAITS
involve a more complex process. Lois takes photos of every subject in different settings before sitting down with them to create a preliminary sketch. Using the sketches and photos, she then produces 2 different perspectives for her client. This careful process helps guide the creation of the original portrait, with further sittings if necessary.
Lois joined with a group of artists to hire models for live portrait sessions. She enjoys capturing the likeness, body language, and personality expressed by each individual.
